Group of undergrads presented with a list of 100 words. 10 of the words were paired with a mild electrical stimulus (shock) 6 months later they were showed 100 words again, 10 words paired with mild electrical stimulus. Gsr (galvanic skin response): measure of skin conductance. Watching a horror movie, waiting for scary thing to happen, the feeling of your skin is a gsr. Found that 90 words --> gsr did not increase. Participants had no memory that the 10 words were paired with the electrical stimulus. Attentional system was able to remember the words (unconscious phenomenon) 2 tasks/ processing activities can be performed if their activates.
