Health Sciences 2711A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Facial Expression, Pat Summitt, Implicit Stereotype
Document Summary
Beliefs are the core, what they are able or not able to do, where do these beliefs come from. As we get older we start to learn about negative beliefs about aging. Some examples of beliefs; its bad to get old, myths about again that if you"re old you"re sick, younger people thought that there are certain top problems that people above 65 have. Fear of crime, inadequate income, loneliness, insufficient medical care, not feeling needed, poor health problems. The many cultures in which you are living. Positive patriotism (they do things like voting), wise, generous, story teller. Implicit stereotypes you"re not consciously thinking about the stereotypes that you have toward a certain person. Negative forgetful, poor drivers, dependent on family, inflexible, old fashioned. In media, there is a lot of young vs old. Old people are ruining the healthcare system and are going to ruin us. Discrimination is actually treating someone differently because of the ageism.
