In urban north american, our primary relationship with animals is as food or to a lesser extent as pets o o o o o. Eating meat can be something we just do without thinking. Before her book, people were vegetarian for a certain belief o: wrote the 1st largely popular treaty on vegetarianism as a moral act diet for a small planet. 1st published in 1971: introduced vegetarianism/veganism to society o. Popularized health and ecologically-based vegetarianism in north america. Central thesis presented as dietary advice but also has a strong moral tone to it. There is a scarcity of food in the world. Some people say there isn"t a shortage of food in the world, just uneven distribution. Animals are fed excessive protein in order to grow meat protein. Chickens eat 8 lbs of protein feed in order to produce 1 lb of meat protein. Ineffective system because dumping protein into animals for small increase of protein in animal meat.
