Lecture 2 note systemic and functional anatomy & basic cells and tissues. Regional anatomy: pick an area, study every system in it, move onto the next area, example: study the eye, including the vascular system, muscular system, etc. in its entirety. Dissection is very valuable, but this is a good thing because of medical advancements that have made it possible to use more donated bodies as organ donors instead of just as cadavers. Because of this, we have switched to systemic study, which also makes it possible to teach anatomy to larger university classes. September 11th, 2018: skeletal system/cardiovascular system, quite connected to each other, often times, parts of the cardiovascular system are named for the nearby bones. Important descriptive words: medial towards the midline, lateral away from the midline, superior higher. Planes of reference: frontal/coronal plane, place a slice through the body that splits it into a posterior and anterior portion.
