Psychopathology: the scientific study of mental disorders; features of people"s mental health considered collectively; mental or behavioural disorder. What does pathology have to do with understanding stress: emotional dis-order can result when the weight or accumulated stressors becomes too weighty to bear, stress= fear= anxiety. Comprise a broad range of problems, with difference symptoms. Generally characterized by some combination of abnormal thought, emotions, behaviour and relationships with others. Examples are schizophrenia, depression, mental retardation and disorders due to drug abuse. Psychodynamic (theory) recognizes that the relationships and circumstances of early life continues to affect people as adults, that human behaviour results from unconscious as well as conscious or rational motives. Psychodynamic therapy the act of talking about problems can help people. Relies on the therapeutic alliance in order to work (build bond/trust first)
