Introduction to the modern middle east from rise to. The modern middle east is very different from the medieval middle. Standards of living in the modern middle east , which were high, probably the highest of all contemporary societies during the 7th- 10th centuries period, and even later, are currently among the lowest in the world. It means lower standards in every aspect, education, healthcare etc. but also has an effect on politics, economics and social development. Most importantly, currently there is no progress but rather further decline and regression. The middle east, its people and islamic societies as a whole appear to go backward rather than forward. At this juncture there is internal social dislocation, whether due to religion or to political aspirations. Some observers went as far as to say that islam is incompatible with modernity, which includes all aspects of modern life and opposition to change.
