Zombies in pop-culture: white zombie: beginning of zombie genre, white couple visiting haiti, they encounter an evil plantation woman who wants to turn the man into a zombie. Involved in a lot of popular culture, video games, movies, etc. and a symbol of disaster: disaster agencies like center of disease control use zombies as a short-hand for catastrophe, this is ultimately about fear. Individual vs. collective fears: collective fears cause damage, domains of fear aka general things people are afraid of, asking a person how afraid of you of _________?, rather than are you afraid of. We never know: knowledge doesn"t necessarily mean there is no panic, because even when we know about something we can still panic.
