Geography 2144A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Airbnb, Conspicuous Leisure
Document Summary
Week 12: trends and the future of tourism. Very different to anywhere else in the world: history and timing, us is very distinct time, europe tourism hasn"t had the same flow and development as the us. Independence and self-determination: market is large and hard to replace, lack of targeted government interference, most politicians don"t have much vision when they want to interfere with the economy, overall small impact on national economy. Insignificant in the context of the size of the economy: not significant to one state, with the exception of nevada, omnipresent. In every state: every state has some natural, cultural heritage that warrants tourism, not the case in all other countries. Tourism isn"t evenly distributed in all other parts of other countries. It will exist in our lifetime: looking to develop this. In the next 2-5 years: un world tourism agency. More chinese, and now able to travel: still largely developed countries, but with a changing pattern.
