Phallic - object which looks like a penis: can mean sexual or violent penetration. 4 levels of meaning: referential, explicit - obvious meaning, american individualism (what dorothy needs to learn) i. e. donald trump presents himself to be a self-made man (which he is not), dorothy relying on others and not herself. To show that she is self-made, her aunt don"t love or care for her as much as her parents would: films reflect conscious and unconscious ideas of the filmmakers. Connotative meaning of mad max still: loneliness, storm cloud = incoming danger/something is wrong, fight stance = ready for action, darkness vs lightness of clouds = all hope is not lost, smallness = powerlessness. Digital media allows editors to manipulate characters or the atmosphere - which can convey meaning i. e. orange = heat, warning/caution. Sometimes people considered some art to be opposed to him as a business.
