8 views1 pages

Document Summary

Conflict becomes more contentious when partners fall into a pattern of negative affect reciprocity, trading escalating provocations back and forth. People with secure attachment style experience milder physiological response to conflicts than insecure. They less angry, calmer, more collaborative when conflicts arise. They can return to a positive state of mind quickly. They have less stress during conflict: demand and withdraw pattern. One partner engages in demanding forms of behavior such as complaints, criticism and pressure for changes. The other engages in withdrawing forms such as changing topics, avoid discussion , half-hearted involvement or even walk away. Women are demanders and men are withdrawers more often. This may due to gender difference that women are expressive that seek closeness while men are independent that defends their autonomy.
