Poetry helps us say what we mean but cannot say. It has been writen and spoken for thousands of years. This is a mistake because poetry was made to be spoken and performed (other poets are more interested in how a poem looks on a page its visual arrangement) Poetry gives form to thought, language, and feeling. It comes from ancient greek word poema", which means a thing made or created (comes from poein" = to make) Poetry is too complex to be condensed into a single simple answer. (that is what we will be discovering in this course. ) Every poet has a slightly diferent idea of what creaion" is and what it means to write a poem. Poetry is a part of our everyday lives. Reality has a rhythm, a way of organizing meaning (and poetry must follow that)
