In some ways it is treated as a real place, time still passes. Neverland is made out of all the various stories that these children have experienced: much of it drawn from adventure stories. All of the pirates in this book are descendants from the pirates in treasure island. Depiction of redskins in this novel is one racial stereotype after another: poking fun at the absurdities of the adventure genre, e. g. always the redskin attacks, that is the usual procedure.
