Forms of culture that are accessible, widely available, and intended for consumption by as many people as possible (237: binary approach numeric, e. g. how many people consume it + representation, e. g. core set of beliefs, ideas and identities represented/circulated. Idea of mainstream created: may assume mainstream/dominant culture exists, but golden globes/oscars and etc create and show binary, oscars focus on mass consumption, golden globes focus on artistic value, imagined idea that there is such a thing as mainstream culture, mass culture is debatable, sub culture/counter are debatable o. Counter cultures: the prefixes sub and counter assume there is a dominant culture, both oppose those dominant structures dominant structures are seen as limiting, repressive, problematic, us vs. them => minority vs. cmx 7652them, dichotomy, in this context when talk about us, talking about a community, but one that is a minority, taking about something less than/smaller/counter to a preexisting dominant point of view.
