Theory: summarizes a hypothesis that explain a set of observations, support by repeated testing: considered valid as long as no evidence to dispute it if evidence accumulated to support hypothesis (becomes accepted, then theory) *no exceptions will have been found to that law: doesn"t explain the why but predicts how they happen. Theory: explain what happened at the beginning of the universe. Universe didn"t exist, at birth of the universe time/space created in gigantic expansion that emanated from a singularity . Singularity: area in space-time where gravitational force is so high that all known laws of physics don"t apply. Gigantic expansion: small balloon, tiny fraction of time, expands and continues. Observation 3 pillars of proof : recession of stars/galaxies (hubble"s law) The more distant a galaxy is from us, the more red-shift and moving faster away (characteristic of expanding universe) Amount of red-shift can be used as a measure of a star or galaxy"s distance from earth.
