Document Summary

Energy is the capacity to do work. Work is moving opposite to a force (friction, gravity, or moving a chemical reaction towards completion). Energy can be potential or kinetic, it can be transformed from one form to another but the transformation is inefficient (not all of it). Kinetic energy is possessed by an object in motion (photon of light/electricity) Potential energy is stored energy, energy of position. It can be stored in bonds of molecules like glucose which we break down to release energy catabolic process. First law of thermodynamics: energy cannot be created or destroyed only converted= principle of conservation of energy. Amount of energy in universe is constant. Second law of thermodynamics: total disorder (entropy) of a system and its surrounding will increase. Thing will always move form more order or less order (more spread out). Its saying energy will always become more spread out.
