Document Summary

Class 14: basic structure of eukaryotic vs prokaryotic cell with respect to gene expression. Transcription termination site: structure of eukaryotic promoters. This is where the transcription factors bind to the dna promoter, and increase its attractiveness for rna polymerase ii to bind and initiate transcription: role of chromatin packaging and histone modification in transcription initiation. Through acetylation, the histone becomes loose with the dna around it and promoter sites are more accessible and so increases transcription initiation efficiency: protein motifs common in dna binding proteins. Dna binding proteins can bind with three different motifs (part of protein, like domain): Leucine zipper (functions as a dimer: mechanism of splicing and the advantages to alternative splicing. Splicing: snrna proteins come together to form a complex called snrnps complementary bp occurs at intron/exon signals and bp with self to form a loop with the intron gene snips intron off.
