Viruses do not fit on the tree of life = weird. Things that do not come in cellular form are not alive. Obligate cellular parasites anti-viral drugs/therapy often has serious side effects. So anything attacking the parasite in turns effects our cells. Central dogma = dna replication transcription rna translation protein. Retro viruses store their genetic information in rna, instead of dna. From rna, reverse transcription, a step which is highly prone to error. Virion (viral particle) reverse transcriptase (viral dna) intergrase enzyme splices viral dna into host dna (enables its nucleic acid to be integrated into hosts. Dna) transcription, translation, new virions assemble and bud off or lyse out. Hiv mutates it begins to create molecules which are resistant to azt causing the population to evolve. It"s highly unlikely the virus can naturally select to fight against many different drugs at once. Ccr5 - 32 allele hiv resistance (very small portion of people)
