Biology 3338A Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Latissimus Dorsi Muscle, Transforming Growth Factor Beta, Cytoskeleton
Document Summary
* we have this thing called the drosal organizer, we talked about it interms of dorsal lip and henons node. * dorsal mesoderm is cruicial for makng a verteberate. * dorsal organizer position is found early in the embryo. * after fertilization you see cytoplasmic movement, and you see things like grey crescent (tells you cyto has shifted) * in a normal embryo, the first cleavage goes through that crescent (where the organizer will be). * if you divide the two cells in half you"ll get 2 normal embryos because whatever is in this grey crescent goes to both embryos. You need this to form proper dorsal axis. If you cause embryo to divide such as grey crescent is only in one cell (using a baby hair), you can form a normal embryo only with a grey crescent. But you can"t form it in the other embryo so you need that dorsal organizer to form a dorsal axis.
