Early genetic merger between luca and alpha proteobacterium gave rise to an eukaryota. The pinch line is when you look at eukaryotes you have to look at them as genetic mosaics. Photosynthetic eukaryote gets engulfed by a non-photosynthetic eukaryotic host. The first endosymbiosis event with the photosynthetic cyanobacteria: a eukaryote that already has the photosynthetic cyanobacteria is then engulfed by a non-photosynthetic eukaryotes. The first step has only happened once whereas the second stage where the eukaryote engulfs another eukaryote has happened at least three times. A lot of the photosynthesis on this planet exists because of this engulfing. Most deadly parasite on earth has a 20 chloroplast. The most deadly parasite is the malaria parasite. It doesn"t use photosynthesis anymore because its now a parasite. Got the chloroplast from the red alga millions of years ago. Since our own cells don"t have choroplasts we can use drugs that target chloroplasts to kill the parasite.
