Anatomy and Cell Biology 3319 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Appendicular Skeleton, Axial Skeleton, Vertebral Column
Document Summary
Acb lecture 17 (6) intro to skeletal system: surface landmarks of the skull. Study of bone = osteology: foramen: things pass through these openings, usually nerves, fossa: something is gonna fill that fossa, like dishes, or depressions, diff parts of the brain sit in these fossa. Sutures: where your bones fuse: diff size bumps: e. g. , tubercle is bigger than a process, there are muscles attached to those diff bumps. Tend(cid:9)to(cid:9)define(cid:9)sensory(cid:9)organs(cid:9) (eyes,(cid:9)nose,(cid:9)ear,(cid:9)mouth: neurocranium: houses the brain, viscerocranium: forms the face. Lateral(cid:9)view(cid:9)of(cid:9)skull(cid:9)figure(cid:9)7. 4: cranial bones are named from the lobes of the brain that it covers, temporal bone here would be where the opening of the ear is, ethmoid bone: deep into the interior of the skull as well. Sphenoid bone: most of the sphenoid bone is interior, only see a bit of it at the surface: form the medial wall of the orbits and forms the nasal cavity, cribriform plate is part of the ethmoid bone.
