Psychometrician: specialist in psychology or education who develops and evaluates tests. Test: standardized procedure for sampling and describing/quantifying behaviour. Apgar: determine the need for any immediate medical attention in newborn babies. School related tests: school readiness, learning disabilities, giftedness, vocational interest, college admission. Post graduation: driver"s license, security clearance, personality functioning, marital compatibility, brain dysfunction. Most tests have these 5 features: standardized procedure: procedures for administering must be uniform from one examiner/setting to another. Depends on: competence of examiner, directions for administration. Example: indirect meaning of the results of a vocabulary test. Test items can, but don"t have to resemble the behaviours that the test is trying to predict: scores or categories: whatever exists at all exists in some amount, anything that exists in amount can be measured. Testing must sum up performance in numbers or classifications. Purpose of testing is to estimate the amount of a trait or quality had by an individual.
