Sudden loss of memory for personally important information. Generalized amnesia: total loss of memory for a person"s entire life. Localized or selective amnesia: loss of memory for a distinct period of time, usually the few hours immediately after a specific trauma, and/or, memory for only some of the events surrounding a trauma; the remainder are forgotten. A person suddenly leaves home or work and travels to a new location. While in a fugue, may adopt a new identity, or be confused about previous identity.
