In book ii, part iii, sections i and ii of a treatise on human nature, David hume claims that we can be held morally responsible for our behaviour even if it is governed by necessity. Background: why care about freedom of will, a lot of people think its connected to responsibility, if someone was not free then maybe they are responsible, example: john is joining a frat. His friend told him there is no initiation. There is and they are going to put sleeping pills in his coffee and put his hand in water (to make him pee). : people would believe yes but not completely as he was drugged. It was not his choice to be drugged then get behind the wheel. His free will was taken away: what level of self control needs to be present in order to be responsible.
