ENGL 135 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Learning, Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Behaviourism is the view that psychology should be an objective science. Studies behaviours without reference to mental processes. (behaviourists) learning: a relatively permanent change in behaviour due to experience. People spot more errors if they use a red pen and become more critical when marking in red pen. People spot more errors and give lower grades when given a red pen (associated error marking) vs. black pen. Learned associations often operate subtly: after handling dirty, wrinkled money, people become more sel sh and exploitive, after handling clean money they become more unsel sh and fair. Through direct experience with animals, we come to anticipate that a dog will bark and birds will chip, this is associative learning. Associative learning: classical conditioning: learning to link 2 stimuli in a way that helps us anticipate an event to which we have a reaction.
