Organization structure: pattern of jobs and groups of jobs in an organization, an important cause of individual and group behavior. All jobs have a structure, which distinguishes organizations. Activities performed as consequences of the structure. Dominant feature of a organization is its patterned regularity. Organizational processes decision making, communication, socialization etc. Departmentalization: process in which an organization is structurally divided by combining jobs in departments according to some shared characteristics. All activities in a given region should be assigned to a manger. This individual would be in charge of all operations in the particular area. All jobs associated with producing and selling a product or product line will be placed under the direction of one manager. Customers and clients can be a basis for grouping jobs. Matrix organization: organizational design that superimposes product or project based design on existing function based design. Span of control: number of individuals who report to a specific manager: specialization, communicate, contact.
