Document Summary

Canadian medical providers continue to struggle with their moral objects to contraceptive prescriptions. In 1999, eight female nurses successfully defended themselves in the ontario human rights commission and do not have to participate in abortion care (http://www. theinterim. com/1999/may/1nurses. html) moreover, as recently at 2011, an amendment was proposed to the religious. Freedom act in ontario that would protect medical providers who did not want to counsel or fulfill requests for reproductive services (see www. consciencelaws. org). Right of conscience of substitute decision makers, health practitioners, and faith- based health care institutions. The charter basically gives freedom of religion, and thus, medical practitioners get the same rights as patients. Everyone has a personal worldview, and this should be protected. People have freedom of conscious in the charter. Also, in the workplace, people have the right to protection from religious persecution. In the us and uk, nurses are allowed to choose not to perform abortions because to not do so, would be discriminatory.
