Binary: sex and gender in to two distinct categories, a way to set social boundaries. Males are seen as aggressive, leaders, strong. There is a lot of aesthetics in sports that may be missed at first glance. Females are seen as passive, emotional, weak: women are generally recognized for sports such as figure skating, gymnastics and synchronized swimming. The athletic body emerges as an object of social construction and practice. Athletic bodies are not naturally given, they must be worked for and everyone achieves them differently.
