Even if you don"t personally participate, you are affected by there (national leagues, Sport in the u. s. in 17 times bigger than the film industry and 2 times bigger than the automobile industry. It is the slowest institution to adopt the fluidity of gender. It generates and reinforces ideas of who we are: the caribbean team beating the british in cricket, a form of anti-colonialism, the hockey sweater on the canadian bill. Binary: sex and gender in to two distinct categories, a way to set social boundaries. Males are seen as aggressive, leaders, strong. There is a lot of aesthetics in sports that may be missed at first glance. Females are seen as passive, emotional, weak: women are generally recognized for sports such as figure skating, gymnastics and synchronized swimming. The athletic body emerges as an object of social construction and practice. Athletic bodies are not naturally given, they must be worked for and everyone achieves them differently.
