Document Summary
Basic element of communication in the human species conversation. A media is judged based on what extent it helps or damages communication. Most theorists say media is damaging communication. Peters sees that there is a decline in mass media of traditional conversation. Take non-conversational media and make them look like conversations. I. e. many types of public discourse used to be formal but now look more like conversation. I. e. tv shows sense that you"re getting to know someone. Before, had to deliver clear policy statements, abstract ideas, and practical ways to employ them. Now politics has become increasingly more like a popularity contest. Politician connects to you on a personal level & you have a sense that you know this person. Instead of understanding their policies, you trust them as an individual. Conversation has suffered through the increase of conversationalization. You know the person but the person doesn"t know you.
