Document Summary

Cspi reader: pages 205 358 the green and sandelowski articles can be ignored (they are not included on the test). Lectures: november 8, 15, 22 & 29 (all relevant slides are posted on the course webpage) Not a lot of names in the beginning because toronto was not initially epicenter of hiv/aids (that was new york and san francisco) Another reason there aren"t a lot of names is because ill people are underrepresented (there is a stigma towards people who are sick) In canada, homosexuality was only decriminalized in 1968, and then a decade a half later. 1981 feb- police raided all gay bathhouses in toronto, arrested close to 300 men, second largest mass arrest in canadian history at that time. These incidents brought about a lot of homophobia. Only at the very end of the 1980s does hiv get properly identified, so people get to project their own biases and beliefs to this disease due to uncertainty.
