Working definition of colonialism: a form of domination where one nation dominates another through political/economic and military means. Colonialism was a process that was economically driven by economc motives; made possible through violence w/o it wouldn"t have happened. We see the emergence of slavery as an instituation and racism as an ideology. Colonialism draws many parts of the world being connected and part of one system which is comepltetely economically based: the capitalism system. India was colonized primarily bc it was a potential market of consumers. Americans was colonized for its land and natural resources.
