ENV432H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Oak Ridges Moraine, Endocrine Disruptor, Impervious Surface
Document Summary
Impermeable bedrock under river systems (could be close to the surface) High gradient at upper end -at head waters and change in rate of elevation all change as you work your way down to gentle gradient (at mouth) A lot of energy at head waters , a lot of erosion taking place. At mouth the gradient is low, low stream velocity from erosion to depositional - historically our cities are settled at the mouth of rivers. Oak ridges moraine: formed from continental glaciation , higher elevation with coarse material providing good in ltration for ground water reserves (our zone 1) Stream morphology: rif es and pools, eroding on the outside of curves , depositing on the inside --> can also happen when we have ooding events. Thesis : measure growth, biomass and diameter of species from sheltered and non shelter plants form wind. Possible paper idea: road ecology and how this effects species that migrate or disperse such as turtles.
