Document Summary

Lecture 2 - environmental science: climate science investigation. Environmental science: what is it?/ challenges associated with it. It is more holistic and integrated (which doesn"t sit well with so-called pure science) Appreciation of environmental science as foundational to developing solutions. Science is a way to understand the wold and is uses an explicit approach to that understanding. Science seeks to explain how things work, invoking only natural causes. It can also limit itself to those natural causes when compared to social science . Study of natural phenomenon vs. human constructs. Only deal with things that humans can observe, and have the potential to be disproved. Build hypothesis based on this, not opinion . Therefore, science must have the capacity to be incorrect, it should be debatable. If it cannot be disproved it is then not approachable. Scientific assumption if we study long enough, we will observe universal pattern inductive , specific case applied to general case.
