Document Summary
Narrative and story-telling (myths) is (are) critical to the formation of an identity for a religious group, as well as passing on the religion and stories to future generations. The bulk of these stories come from the hebrew bible. The hebrew bible contains 24 different segments, and it remains the most important element of jewish life and the center of scripture. From it"s earliest section, it gives the basic narratives which define our understanding of the universe, and the relationship between humanity and god, and gives us a core understanding of what judaism is. In the book of genesis god creates the world. Jewish people identify with this tradition, replicating the pattern of god"s work and rest, They have a day of rest called the sabbath or shabbat. It begins at sundown on the 6th day and continues throughout the 7th.
