PSY427H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Pornhub, Orgasm, Solipsism
Document Summary
Media and technologies are bound up with the ways that people experience and attend to their bodies, work out their understandings of sexuality and develop their sexual preferences, tastes, and orientations. Sex and sexuality are not outside of culture, but bound together with the technologies, media and commodities that we use to express ourselves and manage our private, intimate, and public lives . There is no unmediated sexuality; always mediated through language, others, social dimension, etc we learn about ourselves and learn about our sexuality and develop as sexual beings through various interconnected forms of mediation. What we want to understand today is what present forms of mediation are we living through and how do we evaluate them. Not talking about a new era of mediation, talking about a continuation in historical process of human beings in terms of sexuality continues to be mediated. New forms of access and cultural impact in that regard.
