PSY336H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Hedonic Treadmill, Twin Study, Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
What percentage of time do you think that you"re happy? . Frequency we get a distribution of frequencies. Percentages has to add up to 100, trade-off between positive and negative mood. Neurotic individuals tend to experience a high number (frequency) of positive and negative mood, but the percentage of positive/negative moods might look similar to someone who is less neurotic (more balanced experience of emotions) How strong the emotion is/ the degree of subjective feeling. Different from valence how positive/negative something is; something can be very positive, but not that intense (relaxation/contemptment) Intensity and arousal describes the same thing but arousal is physiological and intensity is subjective feeling (for our purposes) E. g. heart rate, arousal that can be physiologically measured. Not one is more important than the others. One can be more important for predicting specific outcomes, but if we"re more interested in overall well-being, it"s important to look at frequency and the intensity of emotional responses.
