PSY290H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Proprioception, Tendon Reflex, Neuromuscular Junction
Document Summary
Jan: they put a pedestal to her skull and could move the mechanical arm. Just anterior to the cs is the precentral gyrus: the primary motor cortex. So the chips/electrodes where put in the primary motor cortex, roughly where the arm would be on the motor tonotopic map. Two main structure important for motor movement: cerebellum & basal ganglia. Cerebellum: 10% of brain mass but has more than 50% of brain"s neurons. Looking at fmri images, cerebellum is mostly removed, unless cerebellum is specifically looked at. We know it has inputs from multiple motor sources: Feedback from motor responses via somatosensory and vestibular systems. The organization of cerebellum: the multiple homunculus in the cerebellar cortex. Cerebellum also has a cortex on it and has nuclei on it. The image is showing the info we have about where the multiple body representations are.
