Document Summary
Ecological approach to perception: focus on moving observers/ how movement creates perceptual information that help observers perceive environment: movement creates perceptual information. Optic 1low: provides speed and direction: gradient of 1low: speed of observer moving / more rapid near moving observer (indicated by longer length arrows, focus of expansion: direction/ no =low at point toward observer is moving. Invariant information: information remain constant even when observer is moving: =low information is present as long as observer is moving. Continue to provide speed: always occurs at point toward direction which observer is moving. Continue to provide direction: information from other senses. Vision information important keeping balance: class example: close eye, stand up with one foot/ more dif=icult when close eyes, visual direction strategy: observer keep body pointed toward a target. Way=inding: landmarks: objects on route that serve as cues to indicate where to run. More time spent looking at decision point landmarks. Half of non-decision landmark removed little effect on performance.
