Generalizaion: transferring past experiences to new situaions; apply past broadly: ex: caulilower = broccoli, don"t like, can be helpful in avoiding aversive things or diagnosing sickness. Discriminaion: percepion of diferences between simuli; apply past narrowly: ex: caulilower broccoli, might like, can be useful in problem solving (math, situaions, etc. ) If neurons did not generalize at all, then corices would have to be massive and have a large amount of neurons. We tend to generalize from past experience, addiional experience can teach us to be more discriminaing with feedback. Peak shits in generalizaion: discriminaion training narrows and shifts concentraion of gradient, changing the range of generalizaion, peak of responding shits away from the trained unrewarding simulus, almost avoiding it. Habituaion: contracts corical space devoted to that pitch.
