Document Summary
People tend to habitually use the same few personal constructs leading to stable patterns of behaviour people also differ in how their personal constructs are organized. Anxiety is at the core of many psychological problems. Kelly used the repertory grid technique to identify personal constructs. The client prepares a list of elements, usually people that they know. Compare & contrast elements on the list to reveal the client"s personal constructs ex. In what way are these 2 people alike but different from this third person? . If the client says that the first two people are warm & the third is cold , then this reveals a warm-cold personal construct. Cognitive-affective units form the link between features of the environment & behaviour (stimulus response) They interact with each other to influence what features we notice in the environment. Individuals differ in terms of these cognitive-affective units. The information that you have about yourself can be mentally represented (self- concept)
