It is easy to miss out on information when attention is elsewhere > attention is selective and lenitive. Important of expectations > all top-down processes, built in expecations; Easy for us to miss obvioust things when they violate our expectations. We assume when told "look for toothbrush" we searching for a small toothbrush, ignoring the huge one in the back. If we are not expecting it, then it will be difficult to not miss. A way to think about attention; visual attention. Eye following ball and counting number of passes; everything else fails to get our attention. Attentional capacity is limited > multitasking is not as efficient as performing a singular task. It is selective > certain things in a certain enviornment will grab our attention; Certain stimuli grab attention; can choose to focus attention on something. "cannot remember test question and not paying attention in lecture"
