Document Summary
Is it really an "altered state of consciousness": yes; hypnotized people are seeing images in color (though they"re in black & white) Altered states of consciousness: meditation: concentrative meditation: focus all of your attention on one particular thing, mindfulness meditation: let your thoughts flow freely, paying attention to them, but not. Reacting to them: being really open, long term practice can decrease the reactivity of your autonomic nervous system to stressful events, abundant research done on this - some evidence for this^ One minute meditation: don"t do it more than a minute (it"s cheating!) Just close your eyes, feet planted on the ground, hands on your lap, focus on breathing. Development: doesn"t just happen in childhood/infancy, it"s the approach (ex. Idea is that you can"t interact with these children like cuddling them because then they"ll supposedly want them: they got minimum water & food requirements, they got dressed the same way. In 1989 - bunch of them got adopted.
