Document Summary
A memory system that momentarily preserves extremely accurate representations of sensory information. Information that is not quickly passed to short-term memory is gone forever. Although in a deeper sense, this is not true implicit/ procedural learning reber and artificial grammar learning, and psychic powers. People are picking up pattern although they do not even know, when they are doing implicitly they know but when they ask for rule they do bad. If there is a pattern even though you are unaware, people still eventually pick it up. Iconic memory (eye) lasts about 1/3 to 2/3 of a second. Main function is to give us continuous scenes and sentences. Stm has been elaborated into working memory in which there are three systems: the phonological loop, the visuospatial sketchpad, and the central executive. Recently a new component: the episodic buffer has been proposed.
