Our own confidence that information is accurate has a low correlation to its actual accuracy. Word list : influencing people to believe that words which were not on the list actually were, by asking words that fit in the same category. Study : took people who were 100% confident with their own memories and found that only 70% of people were right about their memories. Researchers have been able to induce people to recall complicated events from early in life that never actually happened, such as getting lost in a shopping mall. Implanting an image of someone"s face doing something that they never did and these people believed that it had actually occurred.
