Taking shortcuts opens us up to biases, which we"re often unaware of. These biases can create all sorts of problems . When we narrow our attention, we take shortcuts. Biases can create their own reality: because perception behaviour consequences would take advantage of you at the first opportunity . For example, if you expect them to be cold, and you act cold towards someone, they will probably be cold. Thoughts, expectations, beliefs, make behaviors based on our biases and generate it into social reality. Word, zanna & cooper study people were treated with more ease, whereas blacks had shorter interviews. (that probably doesn"t help them have a good interview, does it ?) Interviewed black and white people, people watched the interviews, noticed white.
