POL101Y1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 26: Worldwar Series, Forced Migration
Document Summary
Orderly and humane: the expulsion of the germans after the second. Right after wwii, the allies had forcefully transferred the german-speaking population in other parts of europe causing them to become displaced. 14 million people were displaced, mainly women and children. The displacement came with great violence, with many lives lost. Many were perished on trains taking them to. Germany as they had no food, water, or heat. The displaced people were detained in camps, like auschwitz i, which were the same concentration camps used by the germans during wwii. These ethnic cleansings happened in front of thousands of journalists, diplomats, relief workers and media personalities, yet there was little news about it. In today s day, expellees are not hard to find, but regardless of that, there is still little news about it. There are many historians trying to find information on the expulsion and connect it to other horrors that occurred in history.
