Document Summary

Democracy = ruling and franchise: requires political participation. Through liberalism, power is transformed from god to the hands of the people. Worries that democracy leads to redistribution; democracy believes that 100% adults should vote. Political participation aims at producing public good: but few people sit around and think about public good. Once a public good exist, everyone has access to it. Rct believe that it is more rational for people to be free riders than take part in producing public goods: eg. If x works hard to find solutions to global warming, and y, as a free rider has equal access to such policy even though he only sits at home watch television. It is more rational to be y than be x. If the benefit or the ourcome you are working toward is a ublic good, as it is in cases of political participation, it is not rational to participate: rct: it makes no sense to participate.
