NMC102H1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Third Dynasty Of Ur, Lugal-Zage-Si, Manishtushu
Document Summary
Akkadian empire, and the third dynasty of ur. History of uruk in third dynasty is not well known. King lugalzagesi of uruk achieved dominion over extensive area; unlikely this is true, but the scripture (stone balls found in nipur) say so. Over 90 balls bearing this inscription found in the temple in nipur. Captured king lugalzagesi in battle, and led him to the gate of the god enlil in a neck- stock. This inscriptions came from late babylonian copied tablets. Sargon ruled for 56, 55, or 54 years (the exact year is unknown, probably due to scribal copying error) Sargon built agade; his father was a gardener, and he was the cupbearer of ur-zababa. Agade has never been excavated; we only have written documents of it in scripture. Most royal scripture written in akkadian; very few written only in sumerian. 5 rulers: sargon, rimush, manishtushu, naram-suen, and sharkalisharri. Sargon became king of agade; he built agade.
