Lymphatic system: a network of conduits that carry a clear fluid lymph . Lymph: interstitial fluid found in between the cells of the body. It routinely enters into the lymphatic vessels to be sampled in the lymph nodes. Spleen is a major lymphoid organ that handles any antigen that may be present in the blood stream as opposed to in tissues. For example, sepsis, being the major complication of a systematic infection in the blood, would be filtered in the spleen and response personnel (t and b cells) are dispatched to the spleen to take care of the blood-born antigen. Chemokine: similar to a cytokine (messages that tell cells how to behave) in that it is a soluble molecule that is secreted by cell a and communicates to cell b .
