Took advantage of the clergy
Impressive intelligence, capacity for hard work caught attention of queen and

Patronize young bishop, giving him significant authority
Richelieu appointed Secretary of State
Concini murdered, queen banished next year Richelieu tarnished
Seemed like his career was over
Tried to make the best of it

All it did was excite concern and distrust of kings party
Seeing brilliant man close to dangerous queen, decided to get rid of him

Gave him a choice go to queen and convince her to not do civil war or be exiled
Richelieu wanted something in returnI want to be a cardinal
Convinced her not to start a war against her son
Became a cardinal
Louis 13 stupid but had quality he knew he was stupid
Needed someone to advise him
Take responsibility off his shoulders
Began giving Richelieu more and more power realized how smart he was
Richelieu could look at complex problems and reduce them to simple causes

Got to do something about the nobles that regained a lot of power and that
