Document Summary

Instability in europe caused by protestant revolution and catholic response caused a sense of fear and threat in europeans and the fear of the turks. Gave rise to a new kind of europe. Rise of lutheranism and catholicism in europe caused instability and tension. A number of wars occurred in the name of the two religions. Idea of religion as a glue that brought people together, and belief that a single religion was only way to achieve salvation, all these sorts of ideas were dangerous. The name of religion was used as an ideology (was used as a glue and as a divider) The thirty years war broke out in the kingdom of bohemia in 1613. This war changed the nature of war. Bohemians got a new ruler (ferdinand (hapsburg relation)) who banned the right to practice protestants. So bohemians got ferdinand out of power and elected a protestant prince to rule them.
